Eliza Paul Kirkbride poem, the blue mountain, 1824.

The collection consists of a poem, The Blue Mountain, also titled, on the docketing, On the Blue Mountain, signed E.P.K. and dated 1824. The poem was folded into an integral envelope and sent to Joseph M. Paul as a present, with a brief note of appreciation. The poem is a paean to the majesty of nature, and ends in praise of Christ.

Quaker minister Eliza Paul (Kirkbride) Gurney was born into a prominent and active family of Philadelphia Quakers. She distinguished herself as a speaker, traveling to many states, as well as Canada, Scotland, England, France, and Switzerland, to meet other Quakers and exchange views.
